Mesothelioma Diagnosis
The diagnosis of mesothelioma is a very difficult and a complex procedure. The main cause of mesothelioma is the exposure to the mineral known as asbestos. The size of the asbestos fiber is so small that once it finds its way inside the human body, it is difficult to dislodge them through the normal bodily mechanisms. Also the long latency period of this fiber results in the late detection of the cancer. Some of the tests that are carried out in order to determine the presence of this disease are CT scans, X-rays and MRI.
CT scan: This test helps in determining the extent to which the cancer has spread in the afflicted region. The radiologist while carrying out the test also gets a complete knowledge of the region that is afflicted with the disease.
X-rays: The degree to which the fluid has been built up can be greatly examined by the test of X-rays. Apart from that the test is also capable of determining the extent of thickening of the membrane.
MRI: The test of MRI is a far much better option than the test of X-rays as it gives a better view of the afflicted region. This test also helps the doctor in getting the knowledge about the extent to which the disease has spread in the region.
