Mesothelioma Asbestos

Mesothelioma is one disease that is very fast posing difficult questions to the concerned authorities. All the governments and the international health organizations are investing a lot of their resources to find the solution to this deadly cancer. The major cause of this disease is the exposure to the mineral known as asbestos. This mineral is freely available in nature and thus was not known to cause any serious health concerns. It was also found to be quite useful in many applications. As a result the use of asbestos was quite frequent in the earlier times. It was used extensively in domestic as well as commercial purposes. This extensive use resulted in the exposure of millions of people to asbestos.

The major concern with the asbestos fiber is that it has a long period of latency. Once this fiber manages to make its way into the human body then it becomes difficult to dislodge it using the normal body mechanisms. The size of the asbestos fiber is also very small. As a result the natural barriers that the human body has to restrict the entry of the foreign particles are not able to stop it at the very outset. After a long latency period these particles start interfering with the working of the mesothelial cells. This interference leads to the development of cancerous cells in the affected region.

Many governments have banned the use of asbestos in their countries. Many other governments are in the process of regulating the use of asbestos. It is sincerely hoped that the concerned authorities would look sincerely into the matter and strive to completely wipe out the use of asbestos from our everyday life.
