SOME OF THE REALITIES AND PRESENCE OF ASBESTOS

Asbestos exposure in the workplace is one of the main contributing factors to developing Mesothelioma. Typical work environment exposure would include:
  • Construction and engineering industry
  • Ship building industry and naval yards
  • Automotive industry
  • Other manufacturing industries
  • Mills
  • Mines
Some studies show that this disease will peak in 2010, due to the latent nature of this disease that sometimes takes up to 30-50 years to make its appearance, presence and intent known.

There has been numerous lawsuits against companies and parties that were aware of the risks, but yet put profit before the well-being of their workers. Some did not even wear protective clothing and very little was done in terms of preventative steps.

Some of these workers even put their families at risk when they brought the dust particles back on their bodies, work-clothes and tools. The three typical types of asbestos are told apart by their color. White, brown or blue and have been banned in uses across industries now that we know what it can do, since 1990.

These fibers that can be inhaled or ingested, makes its way into your body, can even be swallowed and then moves around, spreads, creating havoc and damage as it goes along.

It is still an illness that is extremely complex and we still know very little about its causes, development, spread and even effective treatments remain limited and elusive. There is no cure for Mesothelioma.

If you suspect that you have had exposure to asbestos or show any of the symptoms like shortness of breath, chest and even lower abdominal pain, wheezing or swelling, contact your physician as soon as possible and undergo the necessary diagnostics to rule out or confirm the presence of these asbestos culprits. Early diagnosis is key in any treatment plan for this killer disease.
